It’s not often that $24,175 gets shoppers both a cool car and a piece of motoring history—unless you’re talking about the Volkswagen New Beetle. With timeless looks, fun-to-drive manners and an available convertible model, the Beetle continues to bring value-priced fun to the motoring masses.
Timelessly cool looks and a fun, high-energy style help the New Beetle connect with drivers of all kinds. From any angle, it’s distinctive and instantly-recognizable. Owners can take advantage of fog-lamps, 17-inch wheels, a sunroof and several dealer-installed body upgrades for further street-smart flare. All the staples are fitted to the Beetle’s interior, including a 6-speaker premium audio system with MP3 compatibility and an auxiliary input jack. A cabin air filtration system is standard on all models, as are rear-seat heater ducts and plenty of storage spaces. Satellite radio and leather seating can be added as well. Regardless of trim level or options, all Beetle models get a 2.5 litre, 150 horsepower five-cylinder engine paired with either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic. The peppy engine is designed to deliver zippy performance without delivering enormous fuel bills. The Beetle’s focus on fun doesn’t mean drivers take a hit in the safety department. Front and side airbags are standard, and emergency locking retractors are fitted to every seatbelt. Impact-optimized head restraints fight whiplash in rear-end collisions, too. There are even standard heated washer nozzles to aid in wintertime visibility.
